Women’s Asia Cup 2024 Schedule: India to play against Pakistan on the opening day

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has unveiled a revised schedule for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup, set to be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. The tournament will run from July 19 to July 28, promising ten days of exhilarating cricket.

Fans can expect a fiery start as India clashes with arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening group stage match. The curtain raiser, however, will see the United Arab Emirates (UAE) lock horns with Nepal.

This edition marks a significant expansion, featuring eight teams, one more than the 2022 competition held in Bangladesh. India, the defending champions after their dominant eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the 2022 final, will be looking to extend their reign. The tournament’s initial postponement from 2020 due to COVID-19 serves as a reminder of the resilience of women’s cricket in the region.

Joining the established powerhouses of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be the semifinalists of the recently concluded Women’s Premier Cup 2024 – UAE, Malaysia, Nepal and Thailand. This expanded format promises to showcase the rising talent in Asian cricket.

Groups for Women’s Asia Cup 2024:

The eight teams have been divided into two groups. Group A boasts India, Pakistan, UAE and Nepal, while Group B features Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia. The top two teams from each group will battle it out in the semi-finals, scheduled for July 26, with the champions crowned on July 28.
