Which Of Donald Trump’s Assets Will Be The Most Fun To Seize?

With a thrilling weekend of basketball behind us, the Above the Law bracket rolls on.

We’ve unveiled the Golf Course region and the Hotel/Estate region already. Now we’ve got some general purpose properties to consider. Commercial real estate, condos, hotels, all mixed together for this one.

Have you not voted in the other regions yet? Good news! Voting on this (and all the regions) will continue until Friday, March 29 at 9:00 am Eastern.

(1) Trump Tower v. (8) 610 Park

Before Mar-a-Lago, there was Trump Tower. For a hot second, Donald Trump refused to move into the White House and wanted New York to reroute the whole city to allow him to remain in his 30,000 square foot — sorry, that was just for the lenders — 10,966 square foot Trump Tower suite. Now, even though he’s more or less abandoned the city, Trump Tower remains the flagship property in the empire. But while seizing Trump Tower might piss him off, it’s actually unlikely because the property itself is beset by debt.

Meanwhile, 610 Park is one of the rare instances of a historic property that Trump bought and did not cover in fake gold branding. Daniel is in this building and it’s got two Michelin stars.

(2) 40 Wall v. (7) Trump Palace

40 Wall is probably the most valuable of Trump’s various assets. Former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said:

“I think if it were to happen, 40 Wall Street is probably the one that he would … I mean, he would hate it,” Grisham told CNN’s Erin Burnett on Monday. “But I think if she tried to seize Mar-a-Lago or Bedminster or Trump Tower even — I mean, those are his babies.”

In a comically bad column for the New York Post titled “NY AG Letitia James seizing Trump’s 40 Wall Street would be a huge loss for the city — and our democracy,” Steve Cuozzo wrote:

If state Attorney General Letitia James seizes Donald Trump’s 40 Wall Street — his largest real estate asset by far — the worse damage would be to New York City…. Duane Reade, the largest store tenant with over 20,000 square feet, moved out last fall — a devastating blow to the dwindling rent roll. The once-proud tower today is worth perhaps $200 million, brokers say — less than half of its estimated value ten years ago.

You’re not going crazy. The article admits that no other property in the city has been managed as terribly as 40 Wall, but contends that Trump has to keep running it or NYC will collapse.

Sure, Jan.

Trump abandoned the “Tower” theme for Trump Palace. As described by the organization:

Located in the heart of the Upper East Side, Trump Palace towers 55 stories above one of Manhattan’s most elegant neighborhoods. As the tallest building on the Upper East Side, Trump Palace offers magnificent views from its many balconies. Featuring a beautiful lobby of marble and mahogany, residents can relax and enjoy the building’s adjoining garden park.

(3) Trump Plaza v. (6) 555 California

Another non-Tower is Trump Plaza, the organization’s New Jersey jewel. If you want all the glitz and glamour of the Trump name but also want to put way too much gel in your hair, the answer is Trump Plaza.

88 Morgan Street, formally known as Trump Plaza Residences, brings exquisite design, unparalleled service, superior amenities and an enviable lifestyle to downtown Jersey City thriving waterfront. This 55 story building which was originally a Trump branded property opened to tremendous success in 2008. Perfectly located just two blocks from the Hudson River waterfront, the property offers incredible views of the Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty.

Bleeding heart liberal Donald Trump must love this San Francisco outpost. Seriously, has anyone ever noticed that the people who bleat the loudest about New York and California being so hostile to business are the same people who choose to make their money in New York and California? Oh, everyone has noticed that? Good talk.

(4) 1 Central Park v. (5) 1290 Avenue of the Americas

Technically this is also a Trump Tower but that’s too confusing, so we’re calling it 1 Central Park.

Situated at the corner of Central Park West and Central Park South, One Central Park West soars 52 stories above Columbus Circle with breathtaking views of Central Park and the city skyline. Prominent architect Philip Johnson converted the building from a former office tower into an award-winning property offering both hotel and residential condominiums, along with a world-renowned restaurant, the Mobil Five Star Jean-Georges.

Meanwhile, King & Spalding, Selendy Gay, and Linklaters all call 1290 Avenue of the Americas home.
