When These Three Roommates Cracked UPSC Together In 2017

All three friends, IPS Saad Miya Khan, IAS Vishal Mishra, and IAS Gaurav Vijayram Kumar, lived, studied and became administrative officers together.

You must have heard the famous song Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge… from the film Sholay and have heard many stories about friendship. Here we will tell you the success story of three IAS-IPS students. All three friends, IPS Saad Miya Khan, IAS Vishal Mishra, and IAS Gaurav Vijayram Kumar, lived, studied and became administrative officers together. All three passed the UPSC exam in 2017.

Saad Miya Khan is a resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. He met Vishal Mishra during his B.Tech at Harcourt Butler Technological University (HBTU), Kanpur. Both people were admitted to IIT Kanpur for M.Tech. He is the top-ranking person among their friends.

After MTech, Vishal Mishra and Saad Khan moved to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC. Here, these people met Gaurav Vijayaram. After this, all three became friends and started their preparation for civil service.

Saad appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination for the first time in 2013. He was successful in UPSC on his fifth attempt in 2017. He secured All India 25th rank but chose IPS instead of IAS. He failed four times due to a lag in general studies.

On the other hand, Gaurav Kumar completed his B.E. Hons. in Mechanical Engineering from PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, and later shifted to Delhi for UPSC preparation. It was Gaurav Vijayaram’s fourth attempt in 2017. He had secured AIR 34 in UPSC 2017.

He said in an interview that he was not prepared for the main examination in the initial attempt. “In the initial attempt, I was not prepared well for the main examination, and in the subsequent attempt; I didn’t score well in general studies papers,” he said.

IAS Vishal Mishra is a resident of Uttarakhand and studied with Saad Khan in Kanpur. He cracked UPSC in 2017 with a 49th rank and became an IAS officer in the 2018 batch.
