S Jaishankar At NAM Summit:
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar urged Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries on January 19 to challenge concentrations undermining their economic security, stating that the NAM’s voice is here to stay and grow. Jaishankar emphasised the importance of a reformed United Nations in India’s National Statement at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, Uganda. He also highlighted the Movement’s numerous concerns, including climate change, the impact of the COVID pandemic, multiple conflicts around the world, and the triad of debt, inflation, and growth challenges.
Passengers Eat Food on Tarmac At Mumbai Airport:
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated on January 18 that incidents such as passengers eating on the tarmac at Mumbai airport were ‘unacceptable’ and that penalties were imposed as a result, amid the unsettling circumstances surrounding airlines in the nation. He went on to say that the government’s top priority is the safety and security of its citizens. In addition to security being compromised at every turn, he said it was unacceptable that passengers had to eat on the tarmac and experience inconveniences.
NDRF Deploys G20 Procured HAZMAT Vehicles And Rescue Teams in Ayodhya
The Multiple National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams trained to deal with chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear attacks, as well as disasters like earthquakes and drownings, have been deployed in Ayodhya ahead of the consecration ceremony, according to an official on January 19. According to NDRF director general (DG) Atul Karwal, the teams are conducting continuous familiarisation exercises and simulation drills in the temple town to prepare for any contingencies. Karwal stated that the commanding officer of their battalion, who is permanently stationed in Varanasi, along with his personnel and experts, are camping there. The DG also stated that the teams will remain stationed in Ayodhya following the January 22 event as long as the city’s hectic activity and pilgrim rush continues.
India Logs 1,378 Cases of Covid Sub-variant JN.1:
According to INSACOG, 1,378 cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been reported in India so far, with Manipur becoming the latest state to detect its presence on January 19. As per the data compiled by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), Maharashtra had the most variant cases (320), followed by Karnataka with 234. Andhra Pradesh had 189 JN.1 cases, while Kerala had 156 of the variant. Furthermore, West Bengal reported 96 JN.1 cases, Goa (90), Tamil Nadu (89), and Gujarat (76). As per data obtained by PTI, Rajasthan has 37 JN.1 cases, Telangana has 32, Chhattisgarh has 25, Delhi has 16, Uttar Pradesh has seven, Haryana has five, Odisha has three, and Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Nagaland have one each.
Ceremonial Bow ‘Onavillu’ Presented to Ram Mandir
The famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has presented ‘Onavillu’, a traditional ceremonial bow, to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on behalf of Lord Padmanabha devotees, on the occasion of Pran Pratishtha (consecration) on January 22. On the occasion of Thiruvonam, an auspicious offering called ‘Onavillu’ or ‘Palli Villu’ (divine bow) is made to Lord Sree Padmanabha. It’s a broad, flat, and elongated wooden piece with miniature god paintings. According to authorities, the bow was presented as a gift to the Ram Temple and will be flown to Ayodhya from Kochi tomorrow, January 21. On January 18, Temple Tantri (Chief Priest) and administrative panel members handed over the ‘Onavillu’ to representatives of the Shri Ram Teerth Kshetra Trust at a function at the shrine’s eastern entrance.
