In an exciting encounter at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Sydney Sixers emerged victorious against the Melbourne Stars in the 28th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. It was their fourth win in the competition and they are well positioned at the second spot in the points table.

Todd Murphy shines with the ball

The Melbourne Stars set a target of 157 for the Sixers, posting a total of 156/4 in their 20 overs. Tom Fraser Rogers contributed 19 runs off 16 balls, while Dan Lawrence played a crucial innings with 36 runs off 34 balls, including one four and two sixes.

Captain Glenn Maxwell provided a quickfire boost with 31 runs off 14 deliveries, featuring four fours and two sixes. Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright also made notable contributions with 34 and 29 runs, respectively.

The Sydney Sixers bowlers displayed a disciplined effort, with Todd Murphy being the standout performer, taking two wickets for 15 runs in his four overs. Tom Curran and Ben Dwarshuis also made significant contributions, claiming one wicket each.

James Vince steers Sydney Sixers to comfortable win

In response, the Sydney Sixers chased down the target with 1.5 overs to spare, finishing at 160/3 in 18.1 overs. James Vince played a stellar innings, scoring 79 runs off 57 balls, featuring 12 fours. Daniel Hughes supported with a valuable knock of 41 runs off 32 balls, including four fours and one six.

Scott Boland was the standout bowler for the Melbourne Stars, taking two wickets for 38 runs in his four overs. Beau Webster and Imad Wasim also picked up one wicket each, but the Sixers’ batsmen managed to achieve the target comfortably.
